Bollwood divas Break myths

2018 has been the year of married actresses. Sonam and Anushka shatter the myth of married actress not being viable for the big screen.

Earlier, married actresses seldom worked in films. But the year 2018 has been the year of married actresses. With Sonam Kapoor Ahuja and Anushka Sharma doing extremely well at the box office this trend shatters the myth of married actress not being viable for the big screen.

While Anushka did four films — barring Zero, all her other films Pari, Sui Dhaaga and Sanju did well. Sonam who was seen in Sanju, Veere Di Wedding and Padman enjoyed accolades for her acting apart. “2018 saw a mammoth 203 films releasing at the box office and girl power was seen at its best. Sonam’s Padman collected over Rs 81 crore in India, Veere Di Wedding did over Rs 86 crore and Sanju did around Rs 335 crore. As for Anushka, Sanju was a biggie for her while Zero has made close to Rs 92 crore, Pari did around Rs 30 crore and Sui Dhaaga made Rs 85 crore in India. So, the notion that married actresses don’t work in films or at the box office, has been shattered this year,” says a senior trade analyst.

Obviously, Sonam and Anushka are on a high as of now. “Sonam also has films like The Zoya Factor which she is shooting for and Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga releasing this year. Anushka has no official announcement as such about any forthcoming film. She is currently happy with her husband Virat Kohli,” says the source.
