Kapil Sharma, Irrfan Khan booked for unauthorized work in flats

Kapil had recently made news for tweeting to Narendra Modi about a BMC official demanding bribe from him.

Mumbai: Kapil Sharma had recently made news for tweeting to Prime Minister Narendra Modi about an official demanding bribe from him for a construction at his office. However, following that, he has now landed in trouble as Oshiwara police has registered an FIR against him for unauthorized constructions at his ninth floor flat in the Goregaon high rise DLH Enclave. The FIR also mentions Irrfan Khan, who also resides in the same building on the fifth floor. Besides the two actors, it also mentions three other flat owners and the builder, Dev Land & Housing.

The case has been registered by a P South ward sub engineer Abhay Jagtap under section 53 (7) of the Maharashtra Regional Town Planning Act (MRTP),1966, which relates to prosecuting flat owners for not complying to notices against unauthorized constructions and could lead to a imprisonment of a period from one month to three years or a fine of Rs. 2000 to Rs. 5000.

In his complaint Jagtap has claimed that Kapil has carried out illegal construction at his flat, police officials stated.

A police complaint was also filed in June against the building for unauthorized constructions and the BMC has reportedly found violations in 15 other flats in the building and has served notices to them already.

The trouble for Kapil does not seem to end, though, as Raj Thackeray-led Maharashtra Navnirman Sena also filed a complaint against him at the Versova police station for keeping mum about being asked to cough money by a BMC official. MNS leader Sandeep Deshpande, who filed the complaint, later wanted it to be converted into an FIR and demanded an investigation into the matter.

MNS general secretary Shalini Thackeray also visited the tehsildar office in Andheri on Monday to lodge an FIR against Kapil for destroying mangroves near his office in the area.

After Kapil's tweet, Maharashtra CM Devndra Fadnavis had asked for the details to look into the matter and BJP MLA Ram Madhav had also lodged a complaint with the cyber cell of the Mumbai police to look into the allegations. The state Congress unit has also targeted the BJP and Shiv Sena, who rule the BMC. However, Congress leader Sanjay Nirupam on Monday supported Kapil in the matter and said that the comedian was being targeted. He urged the Governor C Vidyasagar Rao to look into the matter and initiate a probe by the Anti Corruption Bureau or a judicial probe.
