Today even Akshay and Ranveer want to have shaved look: Anupam Kher on baldness

The good-looking actor, who was barely 28 years old, played the role of a 65-year-old in the film. Since then he has never looked back.

Veteran actor Anupam Kher kick-started his career in showbiz with the film Saaransh in 1984. The good-looking actor, who was barely 28 years old, played the role of a 65-year-old in the film. Since then he has never looked back.

Talking about how he has never let his looks impact his career, Kher said, "This is a dignified, sexy bald look. Initially, when you are losing hair, it is a very frightening stage; also I was very thin and balding. I came to this city to make it as an actor, I had guts.”

“I could not have had this career had I not looked the way I do. Also, my so-called success or appreciation in English language films is because of the way I am (look). If I had a lot of hair, I would have looked like anyone else. Today everyone wants to have a shaved, bald look; be it Akshay Kumar or Ranveer Singh. So there must be something special about my baldness,” he added.

However, when asked whether he missed being the typical hero, he said: “No! I still think I am very good looking. I think all of us have gone through this. Indian cinema has, for a long time, given importance to looks, especially in the early 80s."

Recalling his early days in the industry, the actor said he managed to bag a film like Saaransh only because he was a drama school student. "I was a gold medallist from a drama school, so I knew I needed one opportunity, and it came in the form of Saransh. If I was not a drama school student, I would not have been able to do the role of a 65-year-old man at the age of 28,” the 62-year-old said.

Meanwhile, the actor is gearing up to play Dr. Manmohan Singh in a biopic titled, ‘The Accidental Prime Minister’. The film is a political drama that traces the making and unmaking of the former Prime Minister of India, Manmohan Singh.
