Watch: This is how Arjun Rampal acquired Arun Gawli's consent to make 'Daddy'

Releasing on July 21, 'Daddy' is directed by Ashim Ahluwalia starring Arjun Rampal

Mumbai: Bollywood is currently enjoying a rather successful tryst with biopics. And, while all actors undergo major physical transformation to look their part, Arjun Rampal's avatar as Arun Gawli in the upcoming film 'Daddy' has taken everyone by surprise — the actor's resemblance to the gangster is truly striking.

However, it was no cakewalk for Arjun to turn into the don. Prod him on the subject and he says, "I think Arun Gawli is a very good-looking man (laughs)."

On a more serious note, the actor insists that he wasn't willing to compromise on the authenticity of the character. He says, "It's a true story and so, it has to be real. It is also about ensuring that the character is not completely glamourised — he is a person who comes from a certain backdrop, someone who has been instrumental in creating so much fear and at the same time, garnering so much love."

In this behind the scene video, an emotional Rampal narrates the story of how he got the real ‘Daddy’s consent to make this film.

He reveals that he started shooting for the film without acquiring proper rights from Arun Gawli. When Arjun met him to take the rights, the documents were written in English, and Gawli is not familiar with the language, but it was the honesty and zeal on Arjun’s face, which made him sign the paper without even reading it.
