Ranbir is a disaster, Karan should stop wasting time and make real films: Imtiaz Ali

Mumbai: Director Imtiaz Ali, who is known for making coming-of-age cinema with his work like ‘Jab We Met,’ ‘Tamasha,’ failed to live-up to this expectation with his recently released big banner film, 'Jab Harry Met Sejal,' starring superstar Shah Rukh Khan and Anushka Sharma.

However, Imtiaz took it in his stride and said, “Thanks for all the love, thanks for the positive comments, thanks also for the criticism. I hope all of it helps me make better and better films for you:) lots of love.”

Keeping up his spirits high- the magician director appeared on the celebrity (podcast) chat show #nofilterneha.

In the recent episode with the ‘Rockstar’ director, the former Miss India threw fireballs at him and he answered them all, sans any diplomacy or even attempting to dodge them. In fact, he made several revelations about the actors he’s worked with.

He made some revelations about the actors he’s worked with, like Ranbir Kapoor… saying, “The actors I’ve worked with think that they’re flirtatious, but they aren’t.”

Imtiaz Ali calls Ranbir the biggest disaster!

Imtiaz: Ranbir, I think is the biggest disaster. I think he is a victim of flirtation rather than the guys who propagate it, the propagator, flirts.

Neha: So please explain to me because I can’t understand the difference.

Imtiaz: Ranbir Kapoor? The same chap? Is he a flirt? Not at all! I mean he tries. He tries but he just gets very nervous about it. There was a time when he kind of liked a girl in Delhi. We were shooting so I said, well, I’m going to introduce her to you because I know her and so, have a chat. So he said ‘ya ya’ do that do that. Then I went to talk to her about something else and he was so nervous, he kept clawing at me and trying to pull me back because he thought that I’m going to say something, which will spill his beans.

Imtiaz: What beans? That my friend finds you attractive? He couldn’t bear to have that known about him. So this is not the sign of a flirt at all.

Randeep Hooda is a disaster!

Imtiaz: Randeep is a disaster! Randeep is like, he, as a flirt I think he’d be a disaster because his game is out there even before he starts it. You know, girls I think will outsmart him any time.

His piece of advice for Karan Johar and Raju Hirani:

Imtiaz: Karan, stop wasting time and make the real film you want.

Neha: Raju Hirani?

Imtiaz: "Make a really vulgar film!"

When Imtiaz had to walk to Miranda Hostel naked!

Neha: There was this one scandalous time where you were ragged and you were asked to go from point A to point B naked.

Imtiaz: Hindu college to Miranda Hostel. I enjoy ragging. Getting ragged as well as ragging. So I was Mr. Fresher when I was a fresher and Mr. Ragger when I was in the first year. I really enjoyed the two extremes.

Neha: Were you stark naked on the roads and is that why you got Mr. Fresher because you were so good stark naked?

Imtiaz: Not because of only what revealed itself at that point of time about me but I’m sure, I guess, I hope that there were other aspects to it as well.

Shah Rukh Khan’s surprise for Imtiaz:

Imtiaz: So I had an inkling. Shah Rukh had just mentioned that he is going for Alia’s trial and then maybe then he’ll come across. We were watching football. So my brothers were there, both of them and so was one of their wife and the kid and the maid was sleeping in the room, full crowded house and Arif my brother was wearing like striped shorts and a checked T-shirt or something, sitting on the couch and going like Portugal should do this and shit like that, as though we know any better, our standard is so good in India about football, you know. So we were doing all of that and the bell rang, it was very late at night, 2:30 perhaps and the moment the bell rang I realised that it could be him but I went up to open the door anyway. And I just said that guys I think somebody has come, it was obvious because the doorbell rang and the door opened and Shah Rukh was there. And of course I hadn’t started shooting for this one but I had met him and I know the kind of guy he is, he would land up and it’s not so shocking for me. He’s a big star so you don’t expect big stars to be normal or whatever but anyway he was there and he said yaar, main aa gaya yaar. Tum log jag rahe ho na, very good and he came in and, so it was dark in the hall and he came in and the light of the television screen flickered on his face and everyone realised yeh toh Shah Rukh Khan hai.

Imtiaz: I have got more intelligence than most of the actors. So that intelligence is a bit needed in vanity
