'I was advised against doing a talk show': Karan Johar

The 44-year-old filmmaker is happy and proud that his celebrity chat show is in its 100th episode.

Mumbai: Karan Johar was initially advised against taking up 'Koffee with Karan' on the assumption that it will make him sound "frivolous" and take away his "mystique" as a filmmaker, but he went on to host the chat show which has now become a "big part" of his personality.

'Koffee with Karan', the celebrity talk show, has entertained the audience for five seasons and now this Sunday the show will have its 100th episode going on air with Bollywood superstar Salman Khan.

"I was told in the initial days, don't do a talk show, it will take away the mystique as a filmmaker. Don't do a talk show, it will kind of open you up. It will make you sound frivolous. You are a filmmaker you shouldn't sound frivolous," Karan said in a statement here.

"And maybe I do sound a bit frivolous. Maybe I sometimes come across as a filmmaker who is perhaps not so serious about what he does," he said.

The 'Ae Dil Hai Mushkil' helmer says he has always been himself on the show.

"I am playing myself and I am proud to be myself. And I hope people eventually envelop who I am. I am all about 'Koffee with Karan', the fun, the frivolousness and most importantly the fabulousness. I have enjoyed these last 12 years and I am ready to hit the century," he said.

The 44-year-old filmmaker is happy and proud that his celebrity chat show is in its 100th episode.

"It (the 100th episode) is very special to me. It's actually my century and I am overwhelmed and a tad emotional. I am exceptionally happy that something that started off as a hobby became such a big part of my personality," he added.

The Dabangg Khan came along with his brothers Arbaaz Khan and Sohail Khan on the show for the first time that is aired on Star World and Star World HD. 'Koffee with Karan' was first aired in 2004 and it is known for the revelations made by celebrities and their take on their contemporaries.
