Kangana, Salman, Hrithik, others: Masters of playing the 'victim card' game

Some celebrities seem to play the victim card a tad to often and it can lead to a backlash.

Taylor Swift’s latest hit single gave a lot to think about is it a clapback or is this another attempt at playing the victim card? With innumerable dramatic meltdowns, Kim Kardashian has been keeping us entertained, while her baby sister Kylie Jenner complains about never having lived a normal life. Justin Bieber is an all time pro by now at blaming the media and whining about fame for all his tantrums. Yet, they aren’t the only ones playing these tricks; Bollywood celebs are playing the victim card one by one too!

Kangana Ranaut has been in the news for a lot of things recently. And, while her comments on nepotism in Bollywood are beyond significant, her recent interviews have been all about addressing controversial past relationships with married celebrities. It really makes one wonder whether all this stress laid on her legal battle with Hrithik Roshan was strategically timed. The star has also claimed that her relationship with Aditya Pancholi was abusive and while fans have been commending her boldness, her repeated mention of the same issues has also appeared to be attention seeking to people. Sussanne Khan, on the other hand, has been tweeting non stop about ‘victim’ Hrithik’s innocence in the whole Kangana affair. In more recent news, Pakhi Sharma aka Bobby Darling has filed a police complaint against her husband Rameek Sharma for domestic violence claiming he robbed her of her finances, while the latter has a polar opposite version of truth to tell.

It’s no secret that Salman Khan has always been an ace at the game, carefully avoiding judgment by playing the ‘innocent Bhaijaan’ all these years and his fans have fallen for it too. In the ever going long debacle of nepotism in Bollywood, Saif Ali Khan played the victim of the media, by saying that it is they who create hype around star kids from a very early age and not the core industry. No matter how obsessive our celebrity worship syndromes get, we have to face the fact that they aren’t very cool about acknowledging their fault.

The entire saga seems like a consistent effort to show how difficult their lives are and these dramas are one publicity stunt after another. Yet, actress Priyamani says that sometimes the issues might be genuine. “However, celebrities should always be prepared for the backlash. This is also why it is important to stand by what you say. You cannot go back and tweak and change what you have laid stress on because that dissolves the authenticity of your statement,” she says.
