Just days after an Udaipur-based filmmaker Praveen Vyas accused director Shree Narayan Singh and team of copying the plot of the film from his short film ‘Manini’, another Jaipur-based director Vipin Tiwari has now accused the makers of lifting the punchline of the song ‘Hans Mat Pagli’ from his film ‘Laadli’s’ song ‘Hans Mat Pagli Pyar Ho Jayega’.

Talking about the alleged copyright infringement, Vipin told a leading daily, “In the film ‘Toilet: Ek Prem Katha’, there is a song with the same line ‘Has Mat Pagli Pyar Ho Jayega’. The composition and lyrics are different, but the punchline is the same. I had planned to make Laadli in 2014 and had started working on the script. I was going to Jhalawar when I read this catchy line (Has Mat Pagli Pyar Ho Jayega) behind a truck. It was then that the idea of composing a song around it struck me. On September 12, 2016, I released the trailer of my film along with this song.”

He further added, “It came as a shock to me when I heard the same punchline being used in Toilet: Ek Prem Katha. This line has been used more than once in their song, which is nothing but a blatant copyright infringement. I wouldn't have reacted had some small-time filmmaker copied my song.”

A member of The Indian Film and TV Producers Council (IFTPC) himself, Tiwari claims to have sent a legal letter to the makers. He said, “But I am shocked to see that Bollywood filmmakers - who I feel are aware of all the copyright rules - have done this. I am a member of The Indian Film and TV Producers Council (IFTPC) and I have sent a letter to the producers of the film, Neeraj Pandey, Shital Bhatia and Vinod Kumar Arora via IFTPC. In the letter, I have mentioned about the issue and asked them to submit their response within seven days. It was a popular song in my film and to date the registration is with IFTPC; the same has been mentioned in the letter.”

Viacom 18 Motion Pictures, distributor of the film, has reportedly denied receiving any letter from Tiwari.

‘Toilet: Ek Prem Katha’ has been co-produced by Akshay Kumar and Shital Bhatia and stars Akshay and Bhumi Pednekar in lead roles.

The film is slated to release on August 11.
