Veere Di Wedding rakes in the moolah, Rhea Kapoor, Swara Bhasker open up on success

Its box-office collections have already crossed Rs 42 crores, cracking the proverbial glass ceiling on the success of female-led films.

Five days since its release and people can’t stop talking about Veere Di Wedding. Its box-office collections have already crossed Rs 42 crores, cracking the proverbial glass ceiling on the success of female-led films.

But it’s not only the film’s star cast that deserves credit. Producers Ekta Kapoor and Rhea Kapoor have executed such a terrific publicity drive that people just haven’t been able to ignore the film. Giving credit where it’s due, actress Swara Bhaskar says, “Ekta Kapoor deserves all the credit for the way the film has been marketed. Rhea and Ekta have done a tremendous job of making this kind of film. Ekta made sure that the film was promoted correctly, and Rhea was responsible for everything to do with the look of the film and the costumes, which are being widely appreciated. It is actually Rhea’s baby.”

So far, the producers have remained behind the scenes. Finally talking about her “baby” , Rhea says, “VDW was a film that just had to be made for so many reasons. If this film didn’t spark conversations or debates, it would mean that I was not doing my job right, so the reception is really encouraging. The love and support that the film has received are overwhelming, and the numbers reiterate that the future is female!”

Swara also believes that VDW will change the way women in Bollywood are perceived. “There is a notion in Bollywood that the commercial and masala space is dominated by men. VDW has made a small crack in the glass ceiling. Now, no one can say that girls can’t get a grand opening,” she says.
