Celebrity Cricket League (CCL) Founder, Vishnu Vardhan Induri has added another feather to his cap by venturing into film production. It was recently reported the serial entrepreneur is producing a film on the 1983 Cricket World Cup won by India starring Ranveer Singh as former captain Kapil Dev.
“Yes, I am one of the producers of this film. I promise you all that the inspiring tales about the cricket team of 1983 will be included in the movie. I am happy to bring India’s victory to celluloid,” says Vishnu. Revealing the initial challenges around the sports film, the debut producer adds, “This is my first film as a producer. I am the founder of CCL and South Indian International Movie Awards (SIIMA) as well. But bringing the 1983 World Cup cricket team together was a herculean task. Actually, I first spoke to Kapil Dev and he simply asked me, ‘is it essential to bring the story of this cricket team on celluloid’? However, a little later, Kapil agreed and here we are!”
Interestingly, director Kabir Khan of Bajrangi Bhaijaan fame will be directing the story behind India’s great victory. “The inspiring stories of these cricketers have to be told genuinely, authentically as well in a realistic manner. And we are of the opinion that no other director could do justice to this story… only director Kabir Khan who is known to tell inspiring stories on celluloid in an entertaining manner can do justice. Thus, he was our first and the last choice,” explains Vishnu.
He goes on to add, “I agree his last outing with Salman Khan flopped at the box office miserably. But hits and flops are totally different issues. A director needs to be talented while telling stories and Kabir is of course very talented. So he is the best to tell such stories.”
However, the new producer chose to remain tight lipped about the remainder cast of the film. “We have not yet thought about any other cast and credits for the film. The process will now begin since we have kick-started the launch preparations successfully,” says Vishnu. Giving a sneak peak into his next Telugu venture, he says, “It is going to be something big. You need to wait for the announcement, which will be made soon.”
