Sonam Kapoor says SRK and Aamir afraid to talk because of negative reactions

Sonam spoke up for Aamir Khan and Shah Rukh at the Aankhein Milayenge Darr Se song launch from her upcoming film Neerja.

Shah Rukh Khan and Aamir Khan’s statements about the ‘growing intolerance’ in the country, spiralled out of control and attracted a lot of negative criticism. However, Sonam Kapoor, who is no stranger to online criticism for her work and comments, had some food for thought at an event in the city.

Sonam, who is gearing up for the release of her film ‘Neerja’, said that the two Khan are ‘afraid’ to talk freely about issues because of negative reactions.

Speaking at launch of her film’s new song ‘Aankhein Milayenge Darr Se’, she said, “Just imagine the way we are reacting to Shah Rukh or Aamir Khan. They will be afraid to say or talk about things because of negative reactions. We should be supportive of people who have opinions - good, bad or ugly. Everybody should have a right to speak.”

The star, who is often trolled on Twitter, says at times she doesn’t want to voice her opinions because the reactions are ‘scary’.

Sonam was quoted as saying, “I don't ever want to not have an opinion on something. I said something and I was trolled on another level. But at the end of the day, if I have this platform, I have this voice.”

For those who haters who thought they could shut the Sonam up, the actress says that might never happen. She said, “I'm going to keep doing it no matter what. Eventually somebody will hear what I have to say."

Sonam was in the news all of last week, when news broke that she would be making her first international appearance in the Coldplay video ‘Hymn For The Weekend’. However, the actress had to face another round of Twitter trolls when it was learnt that her appearance wasn’t for more than 5 seconds.

'Neerja', that also stars Shabana Azmi and Shekhar Ravjiani hits theatres on February 19.
