On Tuesday, actress-turned-politician Jaya Bachchan joined other politicians from the Samajwadi Party and All India Trinamool Congress in front of Mahatma Gandhi’s statue on the Parliament premises in Delhi to protest against the accident of the Unnao rape survivor, which left her and her lawyer in a critical state and killed two of her relatives.
However, the protest did not seem to go down well with netizens, who slammed the politicians — Jaya Bachchan included — for smiling and laughing while protesting against a serious issue.
“The seriousness of their protest against #UnnaoCase is reflecting in their smiles,” wrote one user while another said, “These smiling and laughing faces do not show any protest against crime, it is just their political propaganda.”
