The news of Whitney Houston’s demise was very shocking (Music world loses Whitney Houston at 48, Feb. 13). The world has lost one of the most popular pop stars of all times. The void can never be filled. She really had a charismatic voice. I might ask God, Where Do Broken Hearts Go? (one of her best singles). Is this the way to end precious lives given by God Almighty? No. Drugs are not the solution. We don't want to lose any more Whitneys.

Ego problem
My letter has reference to Dr Radhakrishna's letter Shameless strike, (Feb. 12). The strike by junior doctors is not politically motivated. Doctors work hard, and sacrifice a lot to serve their patients. I cannot understand why the government is not accepting their demand for a meagre salary hike. Dr Radhakrishna should not have made such a statement against his own colleagues. The strike is dragging on only because the government is considering it as an ego issue.

End docs’ stir
The common man is paying a heavy price for the cat and mouse fight between doctors and the government (Day 3: Patients still suffering, Feb. 13). No one knows exactly the reasons behind the strike. The government should take the issue seriously, and resolve it fast.

Independent EC
The time has come to make the Election Commission independent like the Supreme Court, instead of being an arm of the government (Ministers need to show EC respect, Feb. 13). No one must be allowed to contest for an elected office if he/she has a criminal record. If the executive does not obey the law, the EC should directly enforce it like the SC instead of writing to the President and the PM who are actually birds of the same feather.
