This is with reference to the report Civic body is clueless about 168 properties in twin cities (July 17). It is a shame that our civic officials are unable to keep track of the corporation’s properties. They are also lagging behind in providing amenities to the public. The main reason for such a poor performance is the lack of accountability among government workers. A majority of them have got used to corruption and have made life miserable for the citizens. Unless there is a change in the attitude of these workers, it is difficult to expect anything worthwhile from the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation.

DIGVIJAY’S COMMENTS
This is with reference to the report Digvijay kicks up a storm (July 17). The Congress leader, Mr Digvijay Singh, has a habit of making controversial statements too often. It is time the Congress did something to control him. He should not create a frightening atmosphere in the country when the people are recovering from the shock of another serial bomb blast. It only widens the gap between the political parties and shows the Congress in poor light.

MUMBAI BLAST PROBE
Most of the investigating agencies probing the Mumbai blasts are offering varied opinions. It is unfortunate that incidents like these are happening on a regular basis. It is doubtful if the government has learnt anything from the previous blasts. What follows a government probe may be a few more Kasabs who will enjoy good food in jail. Is anyone serious about the common man who is losing his life during such attacks? I hope the police will be a little more vigilant before bomb blasts and not after that.

LOW-COST HOUSING
This is with reference to the report Tatas plan `32,000 prefab housing for poor by 2012 (July 16). It is good to know that our corporates are thinking about coming up with low-cost products for the poor. Such houses will be a boon for the poor people in the rural areas. The Tatas had earlier come up the concept of the Nano which is a low budget car. I hope the other corporates will take a cue and come up with such low cost products in the future.

OBAMA, A GOOD LEADER
This is with reference to the report Obama defies China, meets Dalai (July 17). It is nice to note that Mr Obama has ignored China’s repeated warnings and held talks with Tibet’s spiritual leader. The decision affirms his role not just as President of the US but also as a responsible global leader. Mr Obama has done the right thing in bringing up the Tibet issue.
