Backbreaking News

The news stories on Dec. 26 (Petrol prices may be hiked) and Dec. 27 (State power units for 100 pc hike in tariff) about petrol prices and power tariff is set to go up in the New Year are shocking to say the least. The hikes will break the backbone of the common man, who is already facing immense hardships due to the rise in essential commodities.

Careers threatened
It is very sad that TRS chief KCR has decided to intensify the Telangana stir after Sankranti (KCR to strike at exam time again, Dec. 27). It is time that political leaders stop making students suffer due to their decisions. If the students do not get time to complete their syllabus, many generations are going to suffer due to them being ill-trained.

More powers to cops
Most of the points mentioned in the report AP Police has reason to cheer (Dec. 27) are true as the city police has played a vital role in maintaining peace. However, influence and interference of political powers at times still leave the department vulnerable. The police department should be given more power so that it is even more effective.
