Tirana leaders “flirting” with imperialists: Suslov

Moscow, Feb. 4: Mr Mikhail Suslov, one of the secretaries of the Central committee of the Soviet Communist Party, was quoted today by the “Pravda” as saying in an official speech that Albania’s number one Communist, Mr Enver Hoxa and his “entourage” have “begun flirting openly with the imperialists.” The text of the Suslov speech, containing some of the sharpest criticism yet aimed at Albanian leaders by any Soviet source, appeared in this morning’s issue of the Soviet Communist Party’s official newspaper.

Mr Suslov, accused the Tirana leaders of moving “more and more openly from dogmatist positions to those of open struggle against the Communist Party of the USSR and against the world Communist movement.” Mr Suslov is a member of the Presidium of the Soviet Party’s Central Committee. He delivered the speech to a conference of social science experts.

Mr Suslov asked: “Is some sort of conciliation possible, at least temporarily with Western ideology?” He answered his own question: “It is impossible and unthinkable. It would amount to ideological disarmament of Communism. It would amount to disarmament of the international workers’ movement.” Mr Suslov said that a “small number” of Soviet students had been corrupted by “petty bourgeois loose morals, and imitation of bad tastes,” which had leaked into the Soviet Union from the West.
