Politics surround new Telangana

Union home minister P. Chidambaram’s midnight announcement on Telangana on Wednesday took the country by surprise. The announcement brooked no delay, the minister clarified to Parliament the following day. Was there a serious apprehension in the government about the state of TRS chief K. Chandrashekhar Rao’s health that led to the government going public late at night while Parliament was in session? Or were there reasons of politics connected with salvaging the situation and keeping some of the initiative after KCR precipitated the crisis through his fast? The answers will doubtless emerge in due course, but the big question for now is: has a new state of Telangana been sanctioned in principle? In his tantalising Wednesday night statement, Mr Chidambaram noted that the process of formation of the new state of Telangana would be initiated soon with the passing of a resolution in the AP Assembly. This doesn’t sound like a done deal yet, and leaves open the scope for political consultations and negotiations all around, possibly leading to a new state being created if the surrounding politics are favourable. The home minister’s statement had the merit of getting KCR to end his fast and the agitation that had gathered steam and appeared to be menacing. This was necessary to stop matters getting out of hand, and pave the way for discussions with the TRS. Its chief has been invited to Delhi for confabulations by the home minister. That indeed was necessary. When KCR was for a while a minister in the UPA’s first government, the issue of studying the feasibility of a Telangana state had been entrusted to Pranab Mukherjee, the government’s chief troubleshooter. That report is not yet public. It is likely more will be known about it when KCR enters the discussion process. But the real battle will no doubt be witnessed in AP. It is to be seen if an agitation will be mounted to counter the Telangana demand. This had happened in 1972 when the “Jai Andhra” movement had been launched to checkmate the Telangana agitation. Chief Minister K. Rosaiah has said a resolution on Telangana will be moved in the Assembly only after a consensus is evolved among the political parties. This will by no means be easy. Already a very large number of Congress MLAs, as well as legislators from the main Opposition party, the TD, and others have submitted their resignations to protest against any move bifurcation of the state. Indeed, only a small fraction of Andhra MLAs appear in favour of a separate Telangana state at present. This underlines the sense that the issue is wide open. TD chief N. Chandrababu Naidu, who converted to the cause of Telangana after tribulations, appeared cautious on Thursday, saying TD’s support to the prospective resolution on Telangana in the Assembly would depend on the nature of the resolution. Clearly, there is a lot of politics to be played out before we can tell for sure about a new state. No less contentious is likely to be the status of Hyderabad. Telagana protagonists, of course, cannot conceive of statehood without this capital city. But neither can the backers of Visalandhra or a united AP. The Chandigarh model is no doubt on the table — a UT which is the state capital for two states. That is doubtless contingent on the new state of Telangana coming into being. Can another possibility be ruled out at this state — converting Hyderabad into a UT? We shall know as the politics churns on. The overall situation should be handled in a way that gives no impetus to divisive movements elsewhere, such as Gorkhaland.

This fasting until death is a big show. If you are getting nutrients thru tubes while sleeping on a comfortable hospital bed, it is not fasting; you can keep a dying man on ventillator like that. Real fasting people should sit on a pavement with a towel under them, at the most. All this is the result of corrupt people from all sides. Develop backward areas; let new investors invest in Telangana region, if Andhra region think Telangana is Andhra Pradesh also - in fact it should be mandatory. Why only sit in Hyderabad after all the foundations are made?

First of all reacting to trs dubios fasting tactics is pretty childish. Specially when he instigated students of Osmania to creat chaos and act in irresponsible manner he should hv been taken into custody there and then and Mr.Roshiah should hv taken serious stands on declaring law and order. Secondly telengana is an internal issue of Andhra Pradesh. All Andhra people should decide upon it and not few handful and so called high command. All the political leaders in Andhra should take consenses of people of andhra pradesh and decide. Its not a childs play. It involves lot of strategies. Telengana is not an issue to be decided based on someone fasting unto death or suicide attacks. Its a serious issue and should be taken after deciding on all pros and cons. Secondly no tamilian should be allowed to loose talk and pass his comments. People of Andhra Pradesh should unite together and fight a war against dubious people who are trying to bifurcate Andhra Pradesh. People from all over andhra come to hyderabad for further studies and career prospects because it is part of andhra. Before NTR delhi had no recognition of andhra. There all south indians were addressed as Madrasis. Because of NTR Andhra people were recognised as seperate entity. Now its in the hands of all Andhra Political Leaders to take ahead what NTR started and retain the dignity by remaining united.

Hats off to TRS as he is following the footsteps of Gandhiji - non violence - and supporters stand by his decision. When things take an ugly turn, why blame him? Telangana state will be formed and all are welcome to study and live here, as Hyderabad is not a part of Andhra. It is a part of Telangana and regarded as mini-India, why should Andhras feel that they will be necked out? Let's all support for Telangana and TRS.

First of all Congress government has failed in maintaining the law and order in the state at crucial time. Even Central government has taken wrong decision. How can the government accept such demand so immediately in just 15 days. In recent elections TRS has lost 8 seats than previous elections. How govt can decide anything without taking public vote and trust. Government should call upon all-party meeting before giving any declaration on major issue. My question is why Telangana was not supported by their previous leaders like MLAs and MPs for the development and growth of their own people?. Congress has to reply this, because since independence Congress has ruled the state for maximum years and why they have neglected their own people and constituency form growth and development of their own people? It is not the question of Andhra not Telengana it is a question of accountability of leaders and their governments.
First of all let the past leaders since independence present the note in Assembly and prove and bring the things on record that needs of Telengana people was produced before the all leaders of state and non of the leaders and CM's have taken interest towards the issue and the cause of Telangana people. There should be debate in Assembly, Lok Sabha, and rajya Sabha. Then take public opinion along with political opinion for justification for any statehood.
Congress leadership has failed in all respects. They have lost the trust of the people by creating divide and rule policy. Public is the property of political parties to decide what ever they want as per their own wish, before going into the details of last 50 years.
Still the present government could have called upon the leaders of the telengana region have discussion sanction the projects for the area and finance them as they provide funds as they provide others. This is the clear mistake of leadership of ruling and opposition parties for which public is paying.

In last 6 months non of the opposition leaders and parties have come out for steep increase in the prices of essential commodities but they are coming out for separate statehood.

Public is being fooled by taking votes from them and we have seen in last 50 years Congress has always created problems for common man.

Everybody will have to pay for this mess - KCR, Sonia, Babu etc. We cannot let KCR kick Telugu Talli in her chest. People of this great Telugu land will not make that happen. United we stand. With love to all of my Telangana brothers.

The need of hour is a United and Integerated Andhra Pradesh. lets support each other we are primarily Indians, and should resolve our issues amicably and not by hatred and divison of state, which is against the interest of people of state.
those who oppose united andhra pradesh, should realise...United we stand divided we fall.
