Dr G Parameshwar: Unresolved inter-state issues, a big threat to nation

Parameshwar called for harmonious relations among states and said the Centre and state governments should function in proper coordination.

CHIKKAMAGALURU: Home minister Dr G. Parameshwar has lamented that even six-and-a-half decades after the country became a Republic, border and linguistic disputes among various states remain unresolved leading to friction and threatening the federal structure of the country.

Addressing a gathering after unfurling the Tricolour at Netaji Stadium here, Dr Parameshwar, who was appointed the in-charge minister of Chikkamagaluru recently, called for harmonious relations among states and said the Centre and state governments should function in proper coordination.

Irrespective of the party in power at the Centre, the Union government should help in the overall development of states which would help strengthen the federal structure, he said indirectly hinting at the lack of support from the Bharatiya Janata Party-led government for Karnataka’s initiatives.

Youth should take a pledge to eliminate terrorism and make the country a superpower, he said.

The Home Minister expressed happiness over the country’s progress in information technology, bio-technology and space research and said educated youth had no dearth of talent which was why so many international organisations were keen on recruiting them.

On handling his tasks as in-charge minister, Mr Parameshwar said he was aware of problems plaguing the district including some sensitive issues and assured he would get things done after holding discussions with intellectuals, elected representatives and the officials concerned.
