8-year-old girl saves 2 lives, to receive bravery award on Republic Day

She will get Rs 40,000 in cash, a medal and a citation; will also participate in the Republic Day parade.

Hyderabad: Shivampet Ruchitha, 8, saved two lives when a train hit her school bus at an unmanned railway crossing at Masaipet in Medak district on July 24, 2014, in which 16 students died.

On noticing the bus coming to a halt on a railway track and train approaching fast, she pushed two students out of the window. She also jumped off the bus.

However, she could not rescue her younger sister in the first row. Her younger brother also sustained severe injuries, but recovered later. She wants to become a lawyer. She will get Rs 40,000 in cash, a medal and a citation and also participate in the Republic Day parade. Ruchitha, is the youngest of the 25 bravehearts who will receive the National Bravery Awards from the PM.
