I can empathise completely with your sentiments. It is a strange feeling to have your mother clinging to you for advice or support, weakened by disease and age, when she was the one you looked up to for all the answers. No matter how feeble they become, we want to do the best by our parents and so spare no time and expense to put them through different treatments, hoping that one of them would work. At least we can then feel content that we have in part paid the debt - the 'pitrurin' or 'matrurin' which literally translates as 'parental debt', but which, in fact, is a debt of unconditional love.
