Dec.14: The deputy chief minister M.K. Stalin said that the DMK and its leadership have great respect for the former Congress chief minister K. Kamaraj.
Refuting AIADMK general secretary, Ms Jayalalithaa’s allegation that the DMK has no reverence for Kamaraj and hence the government did not name the Radhapuram bus stand after Kamaraj as demanded by the people, Mr Stalin in his campaign in Tiruchendur constituency on Monday said that the DMK and its leader M. Karunanidhi always respected the great leaders of this country.
“Due to his love and affection for Kamaraj, our chief minister pressurised the then Union government led by V.P. Singh to name the terminal that handles domestic flights in Chennai after Kamaraj.” He also added that it was the DMK government that allotted a burial space for Kamaraj in the Gandhi Mandapam at Adyar in Chennai.
Stalin also recalled that the Kamaraj manimandapam at Kanyakumari and the declaring of Kamaraj’s birthday as Educational Development Day were done by Karunanidhi and Jayalalithaa has done nothing to hold high the name of ‘Karmaveerar’ Kamaraj.
Addressing Muslims at Kayalpattinam on Sunday, Stalin had said that Jayalalithaa had done great damage to the secular fabric of the state by backing the Karseva at the Ram Janmabhoomi in Ayodhya.
