Karur, Sept. 29 : The portrayal of DMK general secretary and deputy chief minister M.K. Stalin as Lord Muruga has evoked strong and widespread protests from Hindu organisations.
The enthusiastic DMK cadres put up flex boards at various places in Karur to welcome Mr Stalin, scheduled to visit the textile city on October 3 to participate in various programmes, including the silver jubilee celebrations of TNPL at Pugalur, inauguration of a samathuvapuram at Kadavur and a meeting organised by the youth wing in Karur. Of this, the flex board put up in the light house area by an overenthusiastic cadre depicting Stalin as Lord Muruga has invited trouble and the Hindu Munnani has strongly condemned the act.
“This amounts to hurting the feelings and religious sentiments of crores of Hindu devotees. No individual human being should be compared with any god of any religious faiths. We strongly condemn this act,” Mr A.M. Senthilkumar, district secretary of Hindu Munnani, said.
He also questioned the wisdom of DMK cadres portraying Mr Stalin as god against the party’s basic ideology which said there was no god. “It is highly ridiculous that these non-believers have condescended to portraying their party leader as god,” he said. Mr Senthilkumar also took strong exception to portraying Mr Stalin as ‘Living Valluvar’ wanting to know the leader’s contributions to Tamil language to deserve such praise. He also said the Hindu Munnani, along with other Hindu organisations, would soon organise statewide agitations.
