City road, train accidents claim 12 lives in two days

Dec. 8: In the last two days, 12 persons lost their lives in the city and suburbs in separate road and rail accidents.
A class seven student was killed in a road accident when a van ran over her in Sholinganalur on Monday. The accident happened when the deceased Kousalya (12) was walking out of school with her classmates.
In another incident, Durai Kannu, a resident of Indira Nagar, died after a car hit him while he was walking in a street in Adyar. In a similar fashion, James, from Madurai, Hari of Taramani and Das, a resident of Thiruvanmiyur, were killed at Taramani and Rajiv Gandhi Salai when a car knocked them down.
Dinesh Kumar, a resident of Veera Raghavan Koil Street in Ayanavaram died when an MTC bus hit him near Kilpauk, while the police found an unidentified body in Virugambakkam. It is suspected that the pedestrian died after a van hit him on Monday night.
In a freak accident, Muniyan (30), a cleaner in a water tanker lorry from Besant Nagar, died when the tanker lost control and rammed into an electricity board post near Nungambakkam.
Meanwhile, three persons died when electric trains hit them as they were attempting to cross the track.
In yet another incident, 10 persons were injured when a van capsized on a flyover at Velachery on Tuesday. The injured were admitted to the government hospital for treatment.
Elsewhere, a 50-year-old woman was run over by a MTC bus in Thirunindravur when she fell down from a motorcycle in which she was riding pillion. Due to the potholed road, the victim's husband, who was riding the bike, lost control, the police said. The dece-ased was Rathna Varma, wife of Harichandra Varma, who is a resident of Kurinji colony at Balaji Nagar in Thirunindravur.
