Nov. 28: A businessman from Porur was waylaid in broad daylight along the Tambaram-Maduravoil bypass Road on Thursday morning by two unidentified miscreants and was relieved of his laptop and mobile phone, police said.
The victim Vinod Shangala was driving his car from his motor vehicle spare parts factory at Orakadam towards his home along the Tambaram-Maduravoil Road at around 10.30 am when two youngsters in a Bajaj Pulsar motorcycle stopped their vehicle ahead of him.
“Vinod lowered his window to find out if the men who alighted from the bike needed any help. When the two came near the window, one brandished a knife while the other man opened the backdoor of the car and stole the laptop of the victim,” Tamabaram police said.
Meanwhile, the other thief asked the businessman to hand over his mobile phone and wallet. According to the police, the duo dumped the wallet as it did not contain any cash and fled the scene on their motorcycle.
“Shangala who was in a state of shock got out of his car and stopped other vehicles to ask for help. Using the mobile phone of another motorist, the victim called the police and informed about the theft,” police said.
Although vehicle checks were conducted at several points, the thieves got away with the booty. The Tambaram police are investigating.
Several similar incidents of waylaying have been reported along the Tambaram-Maduravoil bypass Road and the Thoraipakkam-Pallavaram Radial Road, including a murder and robbery.
