Yuvraj Singh, who is undergoing chemotherapy for germ cell tumour in the US, was rightly diagnosed in October 2011 by a Delhi hospital.

An official at Fortis Healthcare said the cricketer underwent a series of tests at Fortis Shalimar Bagh Hospital and was diagnosed with a potentially malignant germ cell tumour. FC has a copy of the report of the histo-pathology test carried out at the hospital laboratory.

Yuvraj’s physiotherapist Jatin Choudhary has been quoted that his cancer treatment was delayed due to 'wrong diagnosis' by an Indian hospital.

“His first biopsy report was stolen from his car. In the second biopsy, the hospital — I don’t want to name it — did not give the correct diagnosis. It was a Russian doctor who detected the cancer and after consultations with doctors in the US, it was decided that Yuvi would undergo chemotherapy.”

The Fortis official said the hospital correctly diagnosed Yuvraj’s condition as germ cell tumour and advised treatment as soon as possible. But Yuvraj went ahead and played the Test series against West Indies in November, only to be dropped for the final Test.

Dr Sandeep Nayar of Fortis, who advised the test, said: “The family doctor had referred the case and the patient came to take tests. We did both histopathology and immunohistochemistry tests and confirmed it was a case of germ cell tumour. The tumour could become malignant any time and there was no doubt about it. We told the family doctor to ask the patient to undergo treatment as soon as possible.”

To conceal the identity of the patient, as requested by his family, the hospital mentioned his surname in the report with a different date of birth.

Yuvraj’s father Yograj did not deny the tests conducted at Fortis.

“I know who has given you these reports…. Nobody has any business with it. Every doctor says this and that…My son is in very good hands in the US. I am happy he is not in an Indian hospital,” he said and hung up the phone.

His family had maintained until recently that Yuvraj’s tumour was non-malignant.

Doesnt Mr.Yograj have faith in the Indian doctors? To make a statement Like"My son is in very good hands in the US. I am happy he is not in an Indian hospital,” India has top notch doctors .People from abraod come to india to get treated. It is a shame that our own people have no faith in our doctors.
