The crickerters are so rich. Tests, one-dayers and IPL money is very big. What is going to help them with few more or less. But the govts are showering crorers on them. Is it necessary? Honour can be given via state honours. Is money the only criteria for politicians wasting the tax payers money. We still have accidents driving on the roads full of pot-holes. Don't get so sentimental to throw tax payers money on the already rich players. Provide basic amenities to the tax payers, don't play with their money.

Shah 07/04/2011 - 11:01am

I am a Muslim from Gujarat. I don't see this as bad. But there are some questions for critics — is money the only criteria to judge honour? Would you like tax payers' money to be paid to cricketers who are already rich? Don't players of other sports deserve the reward, why only cricketers? Do you know last person to get Eklavya award in Gujarat was Geet Sethi — 10-time snooker champion and double world record holder. Don't you think this honour for Yusuf and Munaf is great?

INDIAN 06/04/2011 - 07:10pm

I totally don't agree. Specially Pradeep. Think again, Mr Modi.

Lubba 05/04/2011 - 04:40am

Modi is doing the right thing. The award should be more in kind (and some nominal sum) than cash because these players are already rich and well-paid. The other CMs are doling out money like it's their grandparents' inheritence; it's the tax payers money and should be spent on helping the underprivileged.

INDIAN 04/04/2011 - 09:27pm

Dear Bro Pradeep, please for God's sake don't ever say that Modi is taking Gujarat to new heights. What has been seen in Gujarat the world knows about it.

Mohammed Osman 04/04/2011 - 08:12pm

Modi knows whom to milk and shower gifts on. He got Amitabh for free.

ALI MOULA 04/04/2011 - 06:03pm

It is shame on the part of Gujarat govt to give one lakh each to Munaf and Yusuf bhai. Why such a small amount? Please increase it.

nik 04/04/2011 - 04:08pm

The Chief Ministers are announcing awards as if it is their property. There are so many poor people in India dying of hunger. These crores can feed them for a few more days. The cricketers will anyway make money from sponsorships and BCCI.

sharath 04/04/2011 - 03:14pm

Poor Gujarat Players, CM is giving only 1 lakh and see the other CMs, a minimum of 1 crore. What a joke!

ryhaz 04/04/2011 - 01:39pm

Gujarat's award to its WC cricketer-sons is too less or peanuts in comparison to what other states are giving to their players.
