Kochadaiyaan may go for Rs 28 cr
A group of Telugu producers are vying for the dubbing rights of superstar Rajnikanth’s next venture Kochadaiyaan, a 3D animation film. One producer has reportedly even offered Rs 28 crore to edge out the other bidders. Even though only the recording of the songs has commenced, Telugu producers are offering hefty amounts for the rights. Since Rajini’s last release, Robot, was a sensational hit in Andhra Pradesh and the veteran has a committed fan base in the region, the investment may not be such a bad idea after all.
“We have received some offers but nothing is finalised yet, since the shooting is yet to commence,” says a source close to Rajini’s family. However, a leading distributor, Srinivas, is not surprised with the fancy offer that is much above most of reigning Telugu stars. “Rajinikanth is a phenomenon and the producer could recover his money if he plans a huge release. From a meager Rs 10 lakh for the dubbing rights of Baasha, more than a decade ago, to the meteoritic rise to Rs 13 crore for Shivaji and Rs 26 crore for Robot, the market has expanded beyond conceivable math. The big investment in Rajini is recoverable,” he reasons. Kamal had ruled the roost in Andhra Pradesh for nearly 20 years and Rajini was nowhere in the competition. However, now Rajini has surpassed him.
