Kollaikaran review: Vidharth steals your heart

Genre:
Romance | Drama
Directed by:
Tamizhselvan
Movie Cast:
Vidharth, Sanchitha, Sendhi, Ravi Shankar

Kollaikaran by debutant Tamizhselvan with Vidharth in the lead has a solid script and a neat screenplay which perhaps gave its producer the confidence to release it among two biggies in the festive season.

Though one is reminded of Kalavaani as the scenes unfold, it is the clever packaging that makes it tick!

Kuruvi (Vidharth) is a carefree person and a petty thief in a village. He wants to live life on his own terms.

He has an unmarried elder sister (Sendhi), who works in a rice mill, and a mentally-challenged younger sister. The local people shun him but none has the guts to confront him.

However, Kuruvi’s life takes a turn when he meets Krishnaveni (Sanchitha), a tutorial college student from the neighboring village.

He tries to reform but it is not easy as society refuses to accept him as an honest man.

Meanwhile, there is this scheming temple trustee Nagendran (Ravishankar) who wants to grab the temple jewels and land and make Kuruvi the scapegoat.

Whether Kuruvi comes out of the vicious circle forms the rest of the story with the film ending with a riveting climax.

Vidharth simply steals the show with his witty and serious performance. With his apt body language, facial expressions and dialogue delivery, he proves that he is the perfect choice for the role.

Sanchitha is just about adequate. Sendhi, in an emotion-packed role, has proved her versatility. Debutant Johan’s music for Vairamuthu’s lyrics goes well with the mood of the film.

Kollaikaran has clichéd moments; nevertheless, it is a good effort that’s worth a watch!
