The latest controversy over the ban on actor Nithya Menen has taken a new twist with the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) members coming in support of the actor. AMMA leaders said that they would oppose any move to ban the artiste from movies.
“Nithya Menen is still acting in films. Our organisation will intervene if there is any move to ban her from acting in movies,” said the AMMA general secretary, Idavela Babu.
Some members of the Kerala Film Producers Association (KFPA) were coming up with the ban issue just for getting media attention, he added.
“I don’t know why they are digging up the issue which we had already settled by giving an explanation. They have no authority to ban an artiste,” said Idavela Babu.
Meanwhile, KFPA members said that they did not want to make it a big issue and were looking to settle the matter.
“We will be holding talks with AMMA in the coming days. We hope that all the issues will be settled after that,” said the KFPA general secretary, Sasi Ayyanchira.
The row over Nithya Menen resurfaced when the Kerala Film Distributors Association said on Sunday that it would not allow release of two films – Usthad Hotel and Bachelor Party, in which Nithya played key roles.
KFPA issued a ban on her as she allegedly refused to meet some producers during a film shoot and asked the KFPA to implement it.
“We issued the ban order as we were asked by the KFPA,” was what the distributors association general secretary, Joseph Mundadan, had to say.
