I like Star Trek but it’s no secret that the franchise has spawned a lot of really lame games over the years — with a few exceptions (such as Elite Force and its sequel). Now Digital Extremes looks set to tempt fate by not only embarking on a new Star Trek game, but also by basing it on the new J.J. Abrams movies (a reboot of the Captain Kirk saga). Because we all know how video games based on movie turn out, right? The game will be a third person co-op experience featuring Kirk and Spock; each will have unique weapons, combat styles, and even objectives. The story, written by God of War writer Marianne Krawczyk, is set sometime between the first movie and the second (which is due to come out in 2013).
Will it end up as limp as most other video game/ movie tie-ups have? Or will it rise like a Klingon Bird of Prey and force us into awe? Watch this space.
