If you’re anything like me, you have millions of music files lying around on your computer and can’t even remember where half of your favourite songs are.
This is a guide to getting your collection up-to-date and neatly arranged.
The software I use is MediaMonkey (http://www.mediamonkey.com/) — free, simple GUI and offers all the functionalities of iTunes.
1. Let MediaMonkey populate its library by doing a computer scan- delete any extra files and duplicates. (Library->Files to edit-> Duplicate Titles)
2. Go to Files To Edit, click on the ‘albums’ header to arrange the music by Album. A lot of music will have artist/album information missing- select these and click ‘Autotag From Web’ update this information from Amazon. For the songs that are left, update manually.
3. Select all the files in the Library (Ctrl-A) then go to Tools -> Auto-Organize to reorganize the files on your computer.
4. Choose a format in which you want to arrange the music; for example:
../Music/
Your collection should now be properly tagged and easy to navigate.
