Google joins Indians in celebrating Republic Day

As India celebrates its 63rd Republic Day on Thursday, images of National Bravery Award winning children riding on the backs of decorated elephants are shown on the Google home page to mark the occasion.

The “doodle”, which appears as a rangoli-like motif in the background, depicts three decorated elephants each carrying two children and a tricoloured umbrella on it’s back, a reference to the Bravery Award recipients who took part in the Republic Day parade.
While the umbrellas on the elephants designed as Indian national flag, the letters ‘O’ of Google appear like the Ashoka wheel.
Clicking on the doodle, it leads to a search result page with news and information about Republic Day.
The Internet search giant never misses a chance to feature doodles on its homepage on important days. The doodles were creatively designed to celebrate important holidays, anniversaries and the lives of famous artists, pioneers and scientists.
