Common medical test from 2012

After receiving support from most of the states, the Medical Council of India (MCI) on Monday finally decided to start common entrance test (CET) for undergraduate and post-graduates medical students from next year.

Sources in the MCI disclosed that barring some states, like Tamil Nadu, Gujarat and Bengal, all other states gave its approval for the CET from 2012. While the exam for undergraduate course will be conducted by the CBSE, discussions are on with the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) for conducting post-graduate exam for medical students.
Officials say that issues concerning those states opposing the proposal will be sorted out soon. “States like Gujarat and Bengal had issues with the language of the paper as we had originally planned to start the exam in English and Hindi only. But this issue can be taken care of and we will soon get in touch with the CBSE on this point,” said a senior official in the ministry.
According to Dr Purushottam Lal, one of the board members of the MCI, “Queries related to the reservation policy and seats for private colleges were answered well during the discussion today. The states have been conducting the exam in their regional languages. So they were concerned, but these are petty things and will be sorted out.”
Tamil Nadu, which has been opposing the idea ever since it was mooted last year, still opposed it. The state has most of the private medical colleges. Earlier, former chief minister K. Karunanidhi had also written to the Union health minister Ghulam Nabi Azad that he was “astonished” by the notification. The Tamil Nadu government later got it stayed from the Madras high court. Dr Lal, however, said that things are different now. “We are going by the orders of the court, so all the states must have to come to a consensus,” added Dr Lal.

It’s a request to the MCI officials not to ignore the WB board students. We are in deep sea ever since the bio syllabus of CET has been out!! Please review the bio syllabus at least and replace some chaps of botany with physiology. It’s an earnest request.

Finalise the issues as soon as possible. What should be the trick to crack NEET 2012. In individual books or five books? Please don't say your material is sufficient, We want an answer that we can follow.

If the PG-NEET is being conducted from this year, it is a big problem for all the MBBS doctors who have been reading for the past year preparing for the PG entrance exams.
For those who do not know, students who take up MBBS undergo a rigorous 5 1/2 to 6 year MBBS including 1 year of internship (house surgency). Internship stipend varies from around Rs 3,000 to Rs 9,000 per month.
And another 6 months to 1 year of rural posting (depending on the state policy) Also for a similar Rs 500 to Rs 10,000 per month.
And then they prepare for the upcoming PG (while often unemployed) entrance exams which has disproprtionately very few seats for PG than the number of doctors applying.
Around 40,000 doctors write the exam for AIIMS which has around 50 PG seats. Whereas around 1,00,000 doctors write the AIPGMEE for around 3000 PG seats.
Each year the doctors who did not get a PG seat either give up and try to recover the costs of their medical education and pay off their loans. Or try again next year (while still unemployed and studying all their MBBS books once again)
If the MCI is indeed conducting a NEET-PG instead for the separate AIPGMEE and state entrance exams, I pray they at least stick to the usual pattern of questions this year. At least give 6 months notice with sample questions before proceeding to a completely new pattern.
Those who think that private colleges will be brought under control, please note that NEET-PG in the cuurent form includes only the goverment colleges, and proposes a drastic exam fee hike up from Rs 1,000 to around Rs 4000.
AIIMS, PGI, CMC and DNB have already issued application forms for this exam session separately and hundreds to thousands of tensed doctors have already applied for those, while pondering what fate the MCI is planning for them.

But it says all the pvt medical collgs will be included.. otherwise whats the use of conducting a single entrance test?

rahul 14/09/2011 - 08:22pm

What is the date? When will the forms be issued? Is NEET PG really being conducted from this year or nor?
