Plastics bags have been creating havoc due to their sheer quantity and the persistent nature of the pollution they create. Everyday we dump over 12 crore plastic bags into the environment, which will stay with us forever. This prompted us to look for alternatives and we worked on biodegradable plastic bags. Each bag will disappear into the earth within six months after it is disposed. Tough as a plastic and yet earth friendly, that’s our product and our company,” says Dipack Sangghvi, Director, Greendiamz Biotech Ltd, a company which is probably Asia’s first and India’s largest manufacturer of bio-compostable films named TrueGreen.
The films can be used to replace the internal lining of plastics in pan masala pouches. Not only is the film 100 per cent bio-degradable, but it is 100 per cent compostable as well. “The company has come up with food grade film which can be used for the packaging of dry food products and be used for milk packing as well. It has all the barrier properties required for the product,” he adds.
