In a bid to bring down deforestation, a Chennai-based group called Paperman is promoting various economical ways of handling waste.
Paperman is a movement focused on changing the way people handle waste. This social venture launched to recognise paper man as the most environmentally conscious mascot. “Everyone talks — He acts! Start today — be a paper man” goes the motto of this venture.
Last week, Chennai conducted a recycle week campaign. Over 5,000 people came forward during the week and the activities focused on changing the ways by which people handle waste.
Schools, colleges, organisations, residents, welfare associations and even worship places have been invited to promote the activities of this movement.
The cause is called ‘Sell waste and buy smiles’. According to the website, last week 7,000 students from five schools and many families from four resident welfare associations came together to send 16 girl children to school from the funds collected.
