Donatella Versace presented her highly anticipated collection for the high street chain H&M to a full house that included many of fashion’s most valuable players and a handful of best-dressed celebrities (Blake Lively, Sofia Coppola, Jessica Alba) at the “Versace for H&M Hall on the Hudson,” a converted pier on Manhattan’s West Side Highway. The collection, studded with gold medallions and covered in loud, tropical prints, gave a respectful nod to Versace’s 1980s self while simultaneously clocking a lot of what’s trending now, namely dynamic prints, minibags, head scarves, chokers and flouro pastels. After the show, guests were ushered into a glittering disco ball hall and treated to performances by Nicki Minaj and Prince (Prince!), who sang odes to the Italian fashion house and its signora before finishing the set with an epic “Purple Rain” singalong.
