Haute settings for CPM meet

An exhibition with amazing audio - visual effects that will bring alive the crucial phases of the communist movement in India and an 80 ft long and 40 ft wide gigantic oyster- shaped stage are among the highlights of the 20th Congress of the CPI (M) to be held in Kozhikode from April 4 to 9.

The exhibition, covering a 12,000 square foot area at the Mananchira Square, will be an interesting journey through decisive phases of the communist movement and the people’s movement across the globe.

It’s divided into four parts, beginning with the Left movement at the national level followed by the struggles, the Left parties in Kerala and important events in the history of the struggles in Malabar and Kozhikode.

Last but not the least, the section on international events will include Wall Street protests and the Arab uprising.

Habitat chief Padmasree, G. Shankar, is the main architect of the exhibition, venues of public meeting and delegate’s session. He is leading a team of hundreds of in - house professionals to make the congress a grand success.

Apart from the audio visual effects, the exhibition will display an array of paintings, sculptures, short films and audio clips that will take the visitors on an unforgettable journey through the best moments of historic struggles.

The essence of the exhibition, however, will be the valiant struggles of the CPI (M) and the progress of the Left movement. “The exhibition promises to give the visitors a complete museum - like experience,” said one of the organisers.

However, the highpoint of the party congress will be the venue of the public meeting to be held on the Kozhikode beach. A gigantic oyster-shaped stage, something that is being done for the first time in the history of the party congress, is sure to leave the people awestruck.

The top half of the Oyster will form the roof and the bottom half, the dais. Unlike the flex boards installed in the state capital for the conference, Kozhikode city will have mammoth structures all over.

These structures, with a height of up to 100 metres, will depict the intense struggles of the working people.

The Town Hall, which will host the delegate’s session of the congress, will have a complete ethnic flavour blended with the various events of the Left movement of the Malabar region
