The five persons found guilty in the Kiliroor sex case have been awarded 10 to 25 years' rigorous imprisonment and fine ranging from Rs. 10,000 to Rs. 45,000 by the CBI court here on Wednesday.
Since the sentences for various offences need to be served simultaneously, the maximum jail term for each convict is limited to ten years. The total fine of Rs. 1.6 lakh will be handed over to the family of deceased Shari S. Nair, for the welfare of her now seven-year- old daughter Sneha.
The case pertained to sexual exploitation of a minor girl by many persons after she was lured with offers of chances in tele-serials.
Shari had died in mysterious circumstances in hospital, a while after she delivered the baby. The names of some VIPs had cropped up during the investigation stage, but no case could be established against them.
On Monday, while pronouncing the judgement, the CBI judge T.S.P. Moosath found Praveen, Manoj, Latha Nair, Binu alias Kochumon and Prasanth guilty.
All the accused are awarded 10 years' rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs. 10,000 each for criminal conspiracy.
