On the occasion of the 38th death anniversary of legendary singer Ghantasala Venkateswara Rao, the Ghantasala Smaraka Peet-ham is organising a music festival from February 11 to 13. Veteran film producer and recipient of the Dadasaheb Phalke award Dr D. Ramanaidu and Ghantasala’s elder daughter Ms Syamala will attend the Ghantasala music festival. It will take place at the Gurajada Kalakshetram from 6 pm every day.
T. Sharathchandra, founder of the Ghantasala Smaraka Peetham and Ghantasala Sangeetha Kalasala, along with familiar singers from Visakhapatnam, Nalgonda, Eluru and Hyderabad will present memorable songs of Ghantasala on all three days. His special items such as chain songs with uninterrupted singing for 45 minutes, choosing lines from various numbers in different ragas and styles of Ghantasala, private songs and ‘padyalu’ of the singer and screening of documentaries on Ghantasala will be the special programmes in the three-day music festival.
On February 12, Mr Ramanaidu will be honoured with the Ghantasala Smaraka Puraskaram in honour of his association with the singer and for his contributions to the Telugu film industry as well as the Indian silver screen.
The elder daughter of Ghantasala, Ms Syamala Ramakrishna, will be the distinguished guest attending the programme on February 13. Ravi Kondala Rao, a close contemporary of Ghantasala, actor and writer Gollapudi Maruti Rao will also take part in the music festival on all three days.
