Unhappy with his wife giving birth to a daughter, a man allegedly killed his wife by setting her on fire. While she succumbed to burns and died last at King George Hospital, the man landed behind bars on Friday.

According to reports, Somi Naidu, 30, a farmer in Anandapuram in the district and Someswari, 24, got married four years ago. After giving birth to a girl three years ago, Some-shwari again delivered a girl eight months ago.

Since then, an unhappy Naidu used to frequently quarrel with her.

On Thursday night, the couple had a major tiff after which Someshwari asked her parents to take her to their home early in the morning.

When the parents along with some women activists reached Naidu’s home in Anandapuram in the morning, they were shocked to see her in flames and screaming for help.

They immediately rushed her to King George Hospital where she died a little later, while undergoing treatment.

Parents alleged that Somi Naidu had doused their daughter with kerosene and killed her.

Later, the Bheemili police took Somi Naidu into custody and registered a case.

Women’s rights activist Katti Padma demanded that along with Somi Naidu, his parents also be arrested and punished severely since they too used to harass Someswari for giving birth to daughters.
