The culprits in Ambedkar statues desecretion at Amalapuram will be arrested by Saturday as the police got sufficient clues, according to director general of police, Mr V. Dinesh Reddy.
The DGP reviewed the law and order and crime in Krishna and West Godavari districts here on Friday. Later speaking to newsmen, he condemned the desecretion of Ambed-kar statues by describing him as an icon and architect of the Constitution. He said that as per the directions of the Chief Minister, Mr N. Kiran Kumar Reddy, the police are coordinating with district collectors to provide security to the statues in villages.
The DGP said police pickets were set up at several villages in Konaseema region to prevent any untoward incident and the DIG is camping there to monitor the situation.
Referring to the unrest in Yanam, the DGP said that as per the request of Puducherry police, two platoons of armed forces were deployed at Yanam to bring the situation under control. He said that the AP police have no role and they have to act as per the directions of the Puduch-erry police.
Mr Dinesh Reddy said that cyber police stations would be set up at Vijayawada, Visakhapat-nam and Tirupati soon. The DGP said that a nodal police training centre (PTC) would be set up at Agiripalli village near Vijayawada in 70 acres of land. The PTC would serve Krishna, East and West Godavari districts. He said that a police station would be set up at Bhavanipuram in Vijayawada soon.
The DGP said that the government has been planning to set up a sub-divisional office in each assembly constituency for better policing. He said that more emphasis would be laid on visible policing to make the people come forward to lodge complaints. He said that steps have been taken to make policing people-friendly. As part of it, the police will take initiative to receive complaints, interact with people and rush to scene of offence immediately after receiving information.
