Ex-official denies charges

Refuting allegations of graft against him saying that it's a tactic to deviate the issue pertaining to Emaar-APIIC township scam, the Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation former chairman, Mr S. Sivarama Subramanyam, vowed to expose irregularities ranging from acquisition and allocation of land to money laundering and allocation of villas.

Referring to allegations that he himself and the ex-vice chairman and managing director of the corporation demanded allocation of villas in Dubai worth about Rs.35 crores and intended to blackmail the Dubai-based real estate firm Emaar Properties to expose irregularities if they failed to accept their demand, the ex-chairman said that they were trying to deviate the issue to derail the probe.

He flayed a series of articles being published in a Telugu daily alleging graft against him, the ex-chairman said, “Ever since I assumed charge as the chairman of the corporation, I made efforts to streamline the functioning of the corporation and even introduced several reforms. Moreover, no affidavit was filed against me on graft in any court of law so far. I am going to file a defamation suit claiming damages against the management of the Telugu dai-ly for publishing baseless allegations against me.”

The ex-chairman said that a public meeting would be organised on Subramanyam grounds in Rajahmundry on Febru-ary 26 to explain to the people about how a series of irregularities took place and who were the masterminds behind them.

He said, "So far I have concentrated only on acquisition and allocation of lands, industrialisation and setting up joint ventures. Now I wish to concentrate on buyers and take them to the court of law to prove that they are guilty. I wonder as to how five villas were allocated to one family. There are several irregularities in allocation of 135 villas and there is a need to conduct a probe and expose the culprits.”

Being critical over dilution of the APIIC’s equity to six per cent from 26 per cent in Emaar Hills Township Private Limit-ed, he said, “We made honest efforts to resume the APIIC’s stake to 26 per cent in order to boost up its revenues but in vain. A series of complaints including a private complaint was filed against me but they proved wrong. I intend to help the CBI by providing whatever the evidence I have to help it probe thoroughly and expose the culprits. I even intend to approach the SC seeking its intervention to order a probe to nab the real culprits in the case.”
