Cops train tribal youth in job skills

To help tribal youth in keeping away from the Maoists, police are taking a series of measures, ranging from tournaments on various games to providing training to help them get employment in Rampachodavaram Agency in East Godavari.

To help tribal youth in keeping away from the Maoists, police are taking a series of measures, ranging from tournaments on various games to providing training to help them get employment in Rampachodavaram Agency in East Godavari.

Tribal youth are busy preparing for the ensuing sub-divisional volleyball tournament at present. As there are 10 police stations in the sub-divisional limits, police are encouraging the formation of nearly 20 teams for each police station.

Initially, they will conduct the tournament police station-wise. After elimination of nearly 19 teams from each police station, the best team will be picked up for each police station. All 10 teams will take part in the tourney and the authorities will provide clothes to these teams.

Similarly, police are also conducting cricket tournament and after elimination of several teams at the police station level, the best teams will take part in the sub-divisional level tourney and the winner and runner-up selected and awarded.

Police are providing cricket kits to youth. Apart from training and competitions in various games, police are also providing physical training to tribal youth to get selected in the recruitment of police constables and sub-inspectors in co-ordination with the Central Reserve Police Force and Border Security Force authorities.

Youth are also are being trained to serve in private firms as security guards, drivers and other jobs in the private sectors by organising job melas.

As many as 300 youth were selected in the job mela held last September in the Agency. Police are also planning medical camps to provide medical treatment and health care to tribals shortly.

The Rampachodavaram additional superintendent of police, Mr Navdeep Singh said, “Though there is not much activity of the Maoists, especially in the Agency, their movement is palpable in the porous border. We intend to train local tribals to help them sustain on their own.”
