Woman sells all to help her son

Sixty-four-year-old Lakshmamma, who asked local court on Monday to allow her 36-year-old invalid son to be administered euthanasia, has been working from dawn to dusk in the fields, but her meagre income was not enough to take care of her son’s medical care.

Sixty-four-year-old Lakshmamma, who asked local court on Monday to allow her 36-year-old invalid son to be administered euthanasia, has been working from dawn to dusk in the fields, but her meagre income was not enough to take care of her son’s medical care.

Though she tried to get government assistance, all her efforts were futile. In the meantime, her health, along with her eyesight, has started failing.

Ms Lakshmamma said she had sold everything in her house to pay for her son’s medical expenses. Without any help from relatives and friends, the mother and son live on alms collected from the neighbours.

Responding to Ms Lakshmamma’s plea, second additional magistrate (Madanapalle) Sumalatha issued notices to district collector Solomon Arokiaraj and commissioner (Vaidya Vidhan Parishad), Hyderabad, and asked the mother to appear before her on March 3.
