The University Grants Commission has allotted Rs.54 lakh to Duvvuru Ramanamma Women’s (DRW) College, Gudur, for a two-year post-graduate programme, “Human Nutrition – Nutraceutical Chemistry.” This is an inter-disciplinary and cross-pollinated course of nutrition, pharmaceuticals and chemistry. The course offers opportunities in the pharmaceutical field, food beverages industry, corporate hospitals (clinical nutrition and paediatric nutrition).

Vice-chancellor of Vikra-ma Simhapuri University, Prof. G. Rajarami Reddy, termed the course as an innovative one while congratulating the management and principal of DRW College for bagging the opportunity.

Speaking to media persons at the university here on Saturday, he said that the UGC grants about Rs.60 lakh under this innovative programme only to a single college in a year. “This is an achievement worth praising since the DRW got M.A (corporate Telugu) just a year ago under the same programme with UGC funding. This illustrates the college’s commitment to excellence. It may be recalled that DRW college was already given a handsome fund worth Rs.1.5 crore by the UGC for being recognised as a college with potential with excellence,” Prof. Rajarami Reddy noted.

Dr. Meher Mani, principal, DRW College, Gudur, said that they will start the course from the next academic year with an initial intake of 20 students. Dr C.R. Reddy, correspondent of D.R.Women’s College, Dr. K. Narasimha Rao, coordinator, media affairs of the university, Dr. T. Radhalakshmi, course coo-rdinator were also present.
