As part of its attempt to make its traditional functions hassle free for the city’s residents, the Warangal Municipal Corporation (WMC) has now decided to make payments of property tax and water tax online.
Collected half-yearly for a period of April-September and October-March, both water and property tax form the bulk of its revenue collection. The WMC earns Rs.28 crore annually from property tax.
According to Mr Vivek Yadav, the WMC commissioner, just like the railway run IRCTC system, any city resident can now use his credit/debit cards to pay property and water tax due to the corporation using the website www.ourwmc.com without waiting for the September 31 and March 31 deadlines.
“To pay up the taxes, one has to enter the house number after logging onto the website, which would then provide further links giving the user with an automatically generated receipt,” he said, adding that no surcharge would be levied for using the online mode. Already, the WMC’s recent decision to provide birth and death certificates to residents through its 10 e-seva centres in the city has come as a relief for many.
Earlier, the issuing births and death certificates for the city’s eight-lakh population was restricted to just one Births and Registr-ation office located within the WMC complex, causing inconvenience to people.
“Now, there is no need to be physically present at WMC office to get bir-th/death certificates as one can get the same at e-seva counters within five days after submitting the application,” Mr A. Ramesh, the WMC IT incharge, told this newspaper.
