A major train mishap was averted on Saturday morning after the train examiner crew at the Coimbatore junction identified a failure in the roller bearing of a coach in the Kurla Express here.
Coimbatore-Kurla Express (train. No. 1014) was scheduled to depart from the Coimbatore junction at 8 am. As the full train left the platform as scheduled, the driver heard a loud cracking noise and braked.
The train examiner crew stationed at the junction inspected the train and found a roller bearing failure in the wheels of coach No. 8, said a railway source adding that they took steps immediately to rectify the problem.
“As we identified the failure at the starting point, a major mishap was averted. The train was pulled back to the platform and we replaced the coach.
The train left the station at 9.30 am,” said station manager Mr D. Chandrasekaran on Saturday. It took about 45 minutes to replace the coach.
