A village that has reportedly never tasted biryani will feast on a whopping 16,000 kg of it when Chef K. Damodaran makes his second attempt to enter the Guinness Book of World Records.
Chef Damodaran, the first Indian to receive a doctorate in hotel management and catering technology, was at Hotel Residency for a food festival offering his signature southern delicacies.
His feat of cooking as many as 617 dishes in little more than 24 hours, which first got him into the Guinness Book of World Records, motivated him to make the second bid for the record books by cooking 16 tons of chicken biryani, he told DC.
The chef and 30 of his students, who are working in different places in the catering and hotel management industry, will be part of the attempt being planned on March 17, 2012 at Padappai a village near Chennai.
“When we had gone there (Padappai) for a survey, we were shocked to learn that the people from the underprivileged village have never tasted chicken biryani. The 16,000 kg that we make will feed about 40,000 people,” he said.
The biryani will be made with 4,000 kg of rice and 4,000 kg of chicken besides 4,500 kg of vegetables and other ingredients.
As many as 350 vessels will be used to make the dish and these will be placed along a 2-km stretch with gaps of 10 feet between them and with a cook for every vessel.
The feat that will start at 6 am and will go on till 8 pm. The people of the village will get to eat the food steaming hot with every cook cooking at least 40 kg of biryani.
