The vigilance officials raided a godown at Santajuturu village in Bandi Atmakur mandal on Wednesday and seized 37,500 quintals of paddy worth about Rs.7.5 crore. The paddy was seized from Varalakshmi Godown by the vigilance officials under the aegis of the vigilance enforcement DSP, Mr Prasada Rao.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Prasada Rao aid that they inspected five lorries with paddy. He said in the waybill it was mentioned that the paddy was going from Raichur in Karnataka to Bengaluru. However, the way bridge bill was in the name of Santajuturu Varalakshmi way bridge, he added. Mr Prasada Rao said that the five lorries were seized and raids were conducted on the godown.
He said that traders had stored paddy in the godown meant for farmers. He said that there was some paddy belonged to farmers in the godown and added that paddy would be released after inspecting papers.
Circle-inspector Pavan Kishore, special tahsildar Buchhendra Babu, ACTO Bhaskar Reddy, SI Chikkanaiah, RI Sanjeev Kumar and others were present.
