Despite promises by the minister for revenue, Mr N. Raghuveera Reddy, Anantapur Lok Sabha member, Mr Ananta Venkatrami Reddy and other people’s representatives, as much as 80 per cent of farmers in the district are yet to get input subsidy.
The government had first announced that the input subsidy would be credited to bank accounts of farmers, affected by severe drought last year, by the end of December. The promise was subsequently extended to Sankranti this month, which came and went by without the promise materialising. While revenue officials claim it is “almost done”, banks have raised objection, telling farmers that there is a mismatch between the beneficiary list and account holders’ details.
Meanwhile, people’s representatives and officials claimed that the input subsidy of Rs.225 crore was disbursed to farmers, though only 20 per cent of them received the benefit.
While the revenue officials told farmers that the beneficiary list was sent to banks and that they have nothing further to do, the banks are sending them back to the revenue department. Thus, making farmers to walk around revenue department and banks all over the district.
